2. What's
up with the name 'Philoi'? |
|
Philoi means 'Friends'/'Connectedness' in Greek
and was created to provide a trusted location on the Web where users
could share links with their friends and make new friends with similar interests.
Over time, it is hoped that this process of sharing will serve to increase the overall
connectedness of the web community.
philos (plural philoi) 'friend' (noun); 'dear, near-and-dear,
belonging to self' (adjective)

4. How
does Philoi support itself? |
|
Philoi supports itself through a variety of methods.
First and foremost, Philoi relies upon volunteer efforts to minimize overall operational
costs (also we don't spend a dime on marketing :) ). Second, Philoi appreciates
any donations from our current users (donate via Paypal...send to donations@philoi.com).
Third, Philoi will raise funds from various foundations and sponsors. Lastly,
Philoi will generate its own revenues (as needed to support operations) through 'my

|
|
6. What
happens when I approve a Philoi? |
|
Once you approve another user as a Philoi (i.e. friend) then
that user is able to create URL links to you that are either public or private.
These Philoi relationships and any public links between these two users can be
viewed by the entire Philoi community. In addtion, once you approve a Philoi,
you are able to access each others contact information (email address, address, phone
etc.).
|
|
|
|
7. What
is the difference between a public and private link? |
|
Public links are viewable by the entire Philoi community
while private links (and any related messages) can only be viewed by you and
the Philoi you shared the link with. We understand the extreme
importance of your privacy and you can rest assured that it will never be
compromised. In the case of your bookmarks, private links can only be viewed
by you. |
|
|
|
8. How
do I know if a link is private or public? |
You can tell a private link from a public link by the
font and background color of the link as well as the privacy indicator. The
font for private links is grey versus black for public links. The background
is light blue vs. white for public links. Lastly, each private link is
also indicated with a privacy indicator
when possible. |
|
|
|
9. How
do I tell whether or not I have already viewed a link? |
|
Unviewed links are highlighted in bold to indicate that
they haven't been viewed. The number of links you share with each philoi also
includes the number of unviewed links in parentheses. |
|
|
|
10. How
can I share my contact info. with other users? |
|
You can choose to share your private contact information
(address, email, phone, etc.) with your Philoi by entering your contact information by
clicking 'Edit
My Profile' from your 'My
Profile' page. Note: this contact information will only be shared
with your Philoi. |
|
|
|
11. How
do I delete a Philoi (i.e. friend) and
what happens when I do? |
|
To DELETE a Philoi, click on 'Philoi' in the side navigation bar, select the
Philoi you would like to delete and click the 'Delete Philoi' button. |
|
When you delete a Philoi all the links you have created
with this friend are deleted and the user is removed from your Philoi list (this means
they can no longer view your contact info. or share links with you unless you approve
them as a Philoi again). |
